Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Gravy
Ingredients:
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gravy:
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup pan drippings (from frying chicken)
Instructions:
- Marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- In a shallow dish, mix together flour, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
- Dredge the marinated chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it's evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Fry the coated chicken breasts until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side.
- Transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- For the gravy, in the same skillet with pan drippings, whisk together flour until smooth.
- Cook the flour mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it turns golden brown.
- Gradually whisk in the pan drippings, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens.
- Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the fried chicken with the homemade gravy.
