Puerto Rican Pastelón Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3-4 ripe plantains
- 1/2 kg ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup butter or olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Slice the ripe plantains into thin lengthwise slices.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and minced garlic until browned.
- Add the tomato sauce and let it simmer for a few minutes. Then reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened.
- In a baking dish, layer a bottom layer of plantain slices.
- Layer the ground beef mixture on top of the first layer of plantains.
- Repeat the layers alternating between plantains and beef mixture until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of plantains on top.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
