Sourdough Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 2/3 cups white sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup cold water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch cake pan.
- Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and white sugar. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the sourdough starter until well combined.
- Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients:
- Slowly add the sifted flour mixture to the creamed mixture, beating until smooth.
- Stir in the cold water and vanilla extract, blending well until the batter is smooth and homogeneous.
- Bake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
